Our Beliefs...
Why Church?
Perhaps you’re wondering, “How will I benefit from attending church services at Lighthouse? What difference will going to Lighthouse make in my life?” Those are fair questions. We all have limited time, and we certainly don’t want to waste any of it. With these thoughts in mind, here are some reasons why it is worth your while to join us on Sunday mornings at 10.
If you aren’t sure what it means to be a Christian, we can help you find out. You’ll hear a message every week based on the teachings of the Bible, and you’ll begin to find out how relevant the Bible is to your daily life. Our goal is to help you experience the critical aspects of being a follower of Jesus Christ. That way, you can make an informed decision about whether or not you would like to become a Christian. Jesus called this process “counting the cost.” He wants those who may decide to follow Him to have their eyes open to what is involved in following Him.
If you are a follower of Jesus Christ but don’t have a church family, we can help you, as well. The Bible says that believers are adopted into God’s family. This is meant to be more than theory. It’s something we need to live out by being in fellowship with a church family where we can learn Jesus’ teachings and put them into practice. We focus on His two greatest commandments: love God and love one another. Those commandments are expressed through our slogan: “Making Friends for Eternity”. We make friends with God by growing ever closer to Him, and we make friends with one another through transparent, Christ-centered relationships. Everything we do as a church is designed to facilitate the process of “Making Friends for Eternity”. We invite you to join us in an exciting journey of following Jesus Christ!
How Will My Life Be Changed?
You should consider attending Lighthouse if you are dissatisfied with your life as it is, and you desire greater joy and fulfillment. Joining our church family will help enrich your life more than you’d ever dream possible. Making friends with God and others is more than coming up with a list of “keys to a successful life.” It’s a transformative process that begins with you. Instead of working from the outside-in, as with most things in life, it involves working from the inside-out.
When you encounter God in a Lighthouse church service, you come into alignment with God’s plan for your life through your friendship with Jesus Christ. Your new friends help in this process of improvement through Bible discussion, prayer time, fellowship, and service projects. You realize that God wants to be involved in your relationships to help make them better. His love guides you to develop deeper, more meaningful relationships with your friends and loved ones. You find that your career goals and personal ambitions seem more attainable. This all begins to happen quite naturally (or, should we say “supernaturally”?) as you engage yourself in “Making Friends for Eternity”.
For more information on our beliefs, please see the Fundamental Truths of the Assemblies of God below.
Two years after the founding of the Assemblies of God, members adopted 16 beliefs for the Fellowship. This list, known as the Statement of Fundamental Truths, remains virtually unchanged. Four of these beliefs are considered the major tenets of the Fellowship. They are:
1. Salvation Through Jesus Christ (John 3:3, 16, 17; Romans 10:13; Ephesians 2:8, 9)
Salvation is received through repentance toward God and faith toward the Lord Jesus Christ. By the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, being justified by grace through faith, man becomes an heir of God, according to the hope of eternal life.
2. Baptism in the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8; 2:4; 17, 18, 38, 39)
All believers are entitled to and should ardently expect and earnestly seek the promise of the Father, the baptism in the Holy Spirit and fire, according to the command of our Lord Jesus Christ. This was the normal experience of all in the early Christian Church. With it comes the enduement of power for life and service, the bestowment of the gifts and their uses in the work of the ministry.
3. Divine Healing for the Sick (James 5:14-16)
Divine healing is an integral part of the gospel. Deliverance from sickness is provided for in the atonement, and is the privilege of all believers.
4. The Second Coming of Christ (1 Thessalonians 4:14-16; 1 Corinthians 15:51, 52)
The second coming of Christ includes the rapture of the saints, which is our blessed hope, followed by the visible return of Christ with His saints to reign on earth for one thousand years.
